Looking forward to comparing cars - Suspect yours may be tidier than mine. Be good to have 20% of all roadworthy 420 tourers in the same place at the same time! Matthew

Re: 🏁 Pride of Longbridge 2026 – Who’s Going? 🏁

I’m planning on attending in my 420 tourer.

What time should we aim to arrive? Will it be obvious where to find the club area? Not been before so I don’t know how big the show is. Cheers.

Rover 220 / 420 starter motor

Hi everyone. Just something to share. Starter motors for R8 220/420 appear to be NLA. Rimmers, my last hope, didn’t have the right one. As the motor span but the gear didn’t engage, the issue was the solenoid. I managed to find this on eBay which matches the Rover solenoid on my starter. https://eba...

Re: Pride of Longbridge 2026

I’m planning on coming along in my Rover. For fleeting moment I thought maybe in my Montego but that was a passing dream….

Do you need to book or buy tickets?

R8 420gsi tourer gear linkage vibration

Hi everyone. Seeking advice. I’ve got a massively irritating buzzing from my gear-lever which only quietens if I hold it. I assume some bushes may be worn but the gear change feels as sharp as ever. Does anyone have experience of this and is there a best place to start looking for the cause? Loathed...

Re: T-Series vibration

Thanks gents - it’s definitely engine speed rather than road speed that’s the issue - just over around 3200-3500 revs. Do others with a 220 or 420 get this sort of drone type vibration. It’s not a severe vibration like you’d get with a bad tyre, it’s really more an annoying noise and you can feel it...

T-Series vibration

Hi there. My 420GSi engine is generally very smooth and even sounds great on full throttle… but at 65-75 motorway speed there’s vibration in the cabin with a bit of a drone. Engine super smooth at 60. It has new gearbox and front mount, not new d/s mount (couldn’t find one) so I just wondered if “th...

Re: 420 R8 drive shaft

Found the issue! The brake disc heat shield was bent over and rubbing the disc at the bottom. Bent it away with pliers - sorted!

Re: 420 R8 drive shaft

I’m just adding some Lanoguard today to the car before I use it again but I suspect that I may have picked up a stone in the caliper. My drive is gravel. The bearing sounded good, unlike the one in the hub I took off. Car is at 102,000 miles now.

Re: 420 R8 drive shaft

I’ll check the box but I think it was a Shaftek. I’d had it in stock for ages. I don’t know how you gauge quality on these things but it seemed ok. I’d also changed the hub. The original job was to change the bearing. Had to cut the pinch bolt to get the hub off the car which would then need drillin...
